2011 Aunt Rita's Foundation Distribution Press Release
December 6th, 2011
Funds Generated By AIDS Walk Phoenix and SAVORlife Events
PHOENIX, Ariz. (Dec. 07, 2011): Nineteen HIV/AIDS service providers in the Valley will receive a holiday gift on December 13 when Aunt Rita’s Foundation distributes $228,000, or $12,000 each, an increase of $1,000 from last year.
Aunt Rita’s Foundation raised the money through its two signature events, AIDS Walk Phoenix and 5K Run and SAVORlife, a spring event when individuals across the Valley host dinners for friends and family and for a minimum donation of $25.
The 2011 AIDS Walk Phoenix in October generated a net income of nearly $265,000 and SAVORlife produced just over $35,000. Since the return of the AIDS Walk to Phoenix four years ago, Aunt Rita’s has distributed more than $800,000 to organizations providing services, programs, assistance and support to men, women and children infected and affected by HIV and AIDS.
Benefiting agencies are: 1n10, Agape Network, The Bill Holt Clinic at Phoenix Children’s Hospital, Chicanos Por La Causa, Compassion in Action, Concilio Latino de Salud, Ebony House, Heal International, HIV/AIDS Law Project, HIV Care Directions, Joshua Tree Feeding Program, Inc., McDowell Healthcare Center, Native Health, The Phoenix Shanti Group, Project Hard Hat, Southwest Behavioral Health Services, Southwest Center for HIV/AIDS, TERROS, and uCAN, Inc.
Each agency will receive a check at an event at The District at the Downtown Sheraton Hotel, 340 N. 3rd St., beginning at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 13. Aunt Rita’s also will recognize Glen Spencer, who is retiring from the Aunt Rita’s Board of Directors after four years of service.
“These are incredibly important funds for the Valley’s HIV/AIDS community, particularly at a time when nonprofit agencies serving a range of needs and individuals are struggling,” said Aunt Rita’s Foundation Executive Director Kit Kloeckl. “We are very grateful for the support from across the Valley in raising these dollars which will be put to good use in 2012.”
